Board of Directors
Cathy Needham, Board Chair
Cathy is the Director of Natural Resources for the Organized Village of
Kasaan, and she primarily works on natural resource and fisheries projects
within the Kasaan Bay Watershed. Cathy is also the EPA Circuit
Rider for Southeast Alaska, working with other Southeast Alaska Tribal
governments on grants management and program development. Cathy obtained
a B.S in Zoology from Oregon State University and an M.S. in Zoology
from University of Wisconsin-Madison; both degrees had an emphasis
in Marine Ecology.
Eran Hood, Vice Chair
Dr. Hood is the Assistant Professor of Hydrology in the Dept. of Natural
Sciences at the University of Alaska Southeast. Eran obtained his B.S.
in Biology from Harvard University, and both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Geography
from the University of Colorado. His research interests are in watershed-scale
contamination transport, organic carbon and nitrogen cycling, alpine
hydrology, biogeochemistry, snow hydrology and chemistry.
Ed Neal, Secretary
Ed is a hydrologist with the USGS Alaska Science Center specializing in
the relation of streamflow to changing climate patterns; discharge and
water quality of streams in southeast Alaska; and ground water/surface
water interaction. Ed received a graduate degree in Geography from
the University of Otago in New Zealand, and a B.S. in Environmental
Science from Washington State University.
Keith Kahklen, Treasurer
Keith is the Natural Resources Manager for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Keith is responsible for the Bureau’s Water Resource Program. Keith
previously worked for the U.S. Forest Service, Forestry Sciences Lab
for nine years. Keith obtained his B.S. in Fisheries Science and his
M.S. in Forest Hydrology from Oregon State University.
David Lendrum
David owns and operates Landscape Alaska nursery in Vintage Park. He shares
with the Partnership his expert knowledge in using native vegetation
to protect and restore streamside and wetlands habitats.
David Hanna
Dave has worked in the construction industry in Juneau his entire life,
and is a general contractor and development consultant. He believes
strongly that the public needs to be involved in guiding the direction
we want our city and watersheds to grow. He sees the Partnership's
diverse membership as an effective voice for improving the health of
Juneau's watersheds, while allowing for smart community development.
Jack Manning
Jack is a family man who lives in the Mendenhall Valley and is owner of
Duck Creek Market. Duck Creek is a major interest, and since duck hunting
his favorite sport, Jack always has ducks on his mind. As a concerned
citizen, Jack participates in stream clean-ups and promotes coordination
efforts between the city government and property owners.
Allan Heese
Allan is an engineer with Toner- Nordling and Associates. Allan wants
to work to find a good balance between needed community, airport and
infrastructure development, and enhancing habitat in Juneau's watersheds.
Erich Schall
Erich is an Associate Civil Engineer with Toner-Nordling and Associates.
Erich has a BS in Civil Engineering from Oregon Tech. Erich is interested
in how the current changes in environmental protection regulations affect
Juneau's construction projects and how contractors can learn to manage
these additional considerations.
Staff
Beverly Schoonover, Executive Director
Beverly is originally from Portland, Oregon where she grew up playing
and fishing on the streams and rivers in the Mt. Hood National Forest.
Beverly received a B.S. in Community Development from Portland State
University and MS in Humanitarian and Development Practice from Oxford
Brookes University, in Oxford, England.
Michelle Kaelke, Accountant/Bookkeeper
Michelle is responsible for the Partnership’s bookkeeping including payroll,
quarterly and annual taxes, and preparation of monthly financial reports
for the board of directors. She has graduate level experience in managerial
accounting and auditing.
